Well, it can give you more power. However, nothing is for nothing and your fuel consumption is likely to increase considerably, so fewer MPG.

It invalidates insurance cover. Which doesn't matter of course until someone drives into you and the mod comes to light.

Remap a diesel? Not going to happen. Most of the things you'd change in a remap, you can't actually change on a diesel.

It depends who does the remap, a trustworthy performance shop will probably be good for the car. Many times these performance shops will only slightly mess with the car, maybe throttle response and things like that. If you are looking for better gas milage it wont really happen, if the company (bmw) could have sold the car with better as milage with just a small remap they would have when they built it. A remap is for performance related things like, speed, hp raise, redline raise.
