What JoelC says and to add to that good advice - drive solo - it is much easier than having an audience all the time. You will be the only one to see your minor mistakes (any mistake that does not cause damage is minor) much less pressure overall.

I remember this same feeling, when I was learning. I can't explain it any better, but slowly, as you gain experience driving, you will gain confidence and you will find out that you are a lot more relaxed - even in traffic. Keep practicing, focus on safety (leave the radio and cellphone alone).

Drive around the local streets and side roads, put on your hazards and drive slow for a while (people will think the car is having problems, not you). Best to "scan" your mirrors (rear & side) every few seconds so you know who's around you. Try following someone who's driving carefully for a mile or two, keep a good distance behind them (3 or 4 second rule) like anything else, it'll start to come together quickly. And Don't Text !!!
