The first thing you should do, and do it quick is to take up more life insurance on him. I believe that your husband is having some problems with his work or life in general. He has to be helped to get through whatever that is eating into him. If you asked him directly whether he has any office or relationship issues, he will not admit nor he wants to share. As for exercising: try taking long walks with him instead of going to the gym. If he can walk for 20 to 30 minutes both ways, then he has his exercise. If you are going to 'encourage' him to walk because of his fatness, then I'm sure, he will not do it. Same with pizza, if you tell him not to eat pizza, he will want it more. He is objecting to you controlling his life. I suppose you may have to change the conversation to perhaps about the happy times both of you went through. Don't talk about his diet, physique, health. Talk something-else. Introduce vegetables into his food gradually. He will rebel if you take away his favourite food. In that he is still a kiddo. Just my 2cts worth.

He needs to find his own motivation for turning things around. I know you love him, but acting like his Mom and telling him to eat his vegetables isn't motivating to him. You could deliver him an ultimatum that involves dome health goals and you leaving him if they aren't met. See if the risk of losing him motivates him.

If he's not willing to exert himself, there's isn't much you can do. But you are already doing the one thing you can, which is to cook better meals. "Then he started whining that he wanted pizza and why was I making him eat vegetables when he only wanted Pizza. " Wow, he sounds like a real baby.

Continue cooking healthy meals consisting of lots of vegetables, fish, skinless chicken meat, lean beef, etc. and cut down on carbohydrates, puddings, soda drinks, cakes, etc. Serve lots of different fruits and just plain water. Ask him to accompany you on a walk around the block. Stay committed and don't give in.
