If he already got custody, why is there going to be a hearing?

Anything and everything. If you want to be prepaired and have the time go to your local court house and sit in on those cases. Its pretty entertaining.

Usually the party moving for emergency custody has to establish, usually by clear and convincing evidence, that the parent in custody has somehow endangered the child's welfare or caused harm to the child. The court then has to make a temporary snap decision as to what's in the best interests of the child. So without knowing what evidence was introduced at the hearing, or what arguments were made to the judge, its impossible to say what "normally" happens at the hearing. Frankly an emergency custody hearing is never "normal" because if it were "normal" it would not be an emergency.
