The USA (federal) does not tax inheritance. The USA taxes the estate. Since it's an a US estate, there would be no estate taxes. There are a few states with an inheritance tax.

I agree with PC. The Irish Government will take out the tax. Your sum will be tax free. The Estate pays it not yourself. UK

See IRS form 3520. Note, the rules on inherited income are the same. You pay tax if the money has never been taxed before or goes up in value before you get it.

If he was not a US citizen and died in Ireland his estate will not be subject to US taxes. The US does not tax what you inherit.
