could go either way. but i would: check the date of the check to see if it's more than a year; have her put a note in the memo portion (if available) in front of the check indicating that it is her check or something to that effect - you can write anything on the memo; have her endorse (signature) the check at the back as well along with you so it shows she has knowledge of you depositing it; take a picture of the check front and back for your copy. personally, i would not do it. the check could be an extra copy of a check that was already deposited in the past. this could happen for example in getting a school refund. the school can inadvertently send you two checks of the same amount but later on you would receive a letter from the school asking you to disregard the other copy. but some like to take risks and deposit both checks as if they won't be caught! this is fraud.

Don't do it. If it's a scam check they'll take $6,500 out of your account in a week or two and she'll probably not have the money to pay you back.

yea, I would definite be scared your account may be empty now but when the $6500 check of hers is proven to be bogus your bank will want the $6500 from you, and don't confuse the issue about who is responsible your bank took the $6500 check paid you the money, later the check is no good and the bank is now out the money which they will come back to you to collect
