most likely bad spark plugs or plug leads breaking down under load, have a diagnostic test to confirm.

It's old enough to have bad spark plugs, but also fuel filters could be dirty. You really need a good mechanic to test drive it and recommend actions. Note I said good mechanic.

Dirty fuel? Blocked fuel filter? Spark plugs wearing out or badly set? Faulty accelerator pedal or cable? Bad pedal control by the driver? Several possibilities - a mechanic would need to check under the bonnet to work out which one it is.
