The teeth on the belt have disintegrated. With luck there is no engine damage. A new belt will confirm either way. It may pay you to get a mobile mechanic to do the work to avoid recovery cost to a garage.

What engine is in it? The timing belt on the 1.8 turbo and 2.8 V6, is not visible unless you pull the front end off, and radiator.

Hi asking the same question does not get a better answer as the problem is more likely a wrecked engine.
