If you want a device strictly for reading purpose, then Kindle Paperwhite helps in few ways: - eInk screen is just like "reading on books" and you get no eye-strains or headache while reading for longer time (like you are most probably to get on LCD screens of tablet) - No distractions at all, so its just reading and you - Every feature is related to reading - 8 weeks of battery backup even with the backlight on - More portable and easier to carry around Complete discussion on Kindle vs A Tablet - Which option is better: http://compare-e-readers.com/EReaderVsTablet On the other hand, reading on tablet would more likely be reading on a smaller and more portable version of laptop as it uses LCD screen to display images. The benefit of getting the tablet would be that you can do 90% of the work that you use your laptop for on it easily and find it to be much more portable. And in addition to reading, you can watch movies, play games and do tons of other stuff, which cant be done on the dedicated eReader. Hope this helped!

If the ONLY thing you will be doing is reading, get a Paperwhite. If you do intend to do a few other things on it, get a Tablet. I say this because while the Paperwhite is great for reading, it is a miserable device for doing anything else.
