You got a claim number. Thats the proof you need. Your insurance company is not going to commit a crime by lying to you and giving you a fraudulent claim number to another company. I went through the same hoops too when my car was backed in to. I was 2 days faster at reporting it to her company, and they told they didn't know who she was. Then called me back after she reported it and it all got worked out in the end. Not sure but I think its just a fraud filter, kinda like a waiting period to buy a gun.

Simply stay in contact with your insurance company and allow them to do their job. Stay out of it ! While you are waiting, brush up on grammar, spelling and punctuation.

First, please learn proper grammar. I now have a headache from reading that. First... did they lie to you? They said they could not find a policy with the information you gave to them. But even if they lied... who cares and what would you expect to do about it anyway? You say they could not find a policy but then ask if they can tell you if the policy expired. I fail to see what these things have in common. You now have the claim information and can call and speak to the insurance company about the loss.
