Not plastic! There is special papers for wrapping them in and maybe even boxes too that will keep out moisture and silverfish etc. Check with your library what they do with antique books to preserve them.

My books do great on a bookshelf, but I would never leave them out in the open. Granted there is no moisture inside the cellophane that would be an effective way to preserve
