When it comes to that kind of situation Ignorance is not bliss. To be able to handle something that is a problem you must be able to identify it, especially if it hurts others, and your own well being. If you can't identify the problem, you will do things impulsively without knowing the consequences. Therefore you will end up in a bad situation. At least if you know, then you can learn ways to control it so it doesn't ruin your life. I'm sure if you are ignorant of it, and you keep losing jobs, friends, getting into trouble, and doing things to hurt others then you will one day realize there must be something wrong eventually, I would hope.

It is good to stay in touch with yourself mentally and physically, it keeps you fit and healthy. Impulsive people are not necessarily happy, they may make wrong decision and choices.

there are bio-chemical imbalances in some people's heads and it is true that some people were born with damaged brains that mean they will for ever have a personality disorder. That is not their fault and, beyond providing medication and discouraging future parents from doing things that result in even more damaged babies, there is little we can do.

Honestly, it's all about balance. Knowledge is literally power. However, if you cannot or if you fail to handle that power accordingly, it can burn you. Knowing you your own mental state, can be extremely helpful, and is generally considered a good thing. When you know what you're problems are, you can work on fixing them and try to get the help that you need. However, some people aren't content with just being aware of their problems, the tend to freak out and over focus their lives on them. This can be very, very bad. Obsession of any sort, generally is. The problem with ignorance is that it is not always bliss. On one hand, you will probably not be thinking about the illness when you are not currently feeling the effects of it. This can be nice. If you knew about the problem you might be worried about it, but you don't, so you're not. However, this doesn't last. Just because you don't know what is wrong, doesn't mean you don't know SOMETHING is bothering you. You will still experience the pain and trouble the illness will cause you, you just may not know that it is an illness or that anything can be done about it. The biggest danger of ignorance is that, even on occasions where it is bliss, it can still get you killed. Some people may think there is no hope because they haven't even uncovered the problem and don't realize that it can be managed and sometimes practically fixed. That can lead to suicidal situations. So in conclusion, knowing is better. But, it's best not to let that knowledge rule your life. Use it, don't let it use you.

"Are the people who are more impulsive happier with themselves"? Yes, in the same sense that a village idiot is happy - they are simply oblivious of the real world. I don't think I'd want to be there.
