It could be as simple as a bad battery cable - but unless you have a amp/volt/ohm meter and can run some diagnostics on your own the best bet is to take the vehicle in for service.

Let me see, Bad battery. Alternator checked out OK. Buy a new battery. Drive car. Same problem. Odds of two bad batteries are quite high. In both my cars, when the alternator is not working as in not providing power to the car there is an icon that resembles a battery, red in color. It shines up each time I place the key to ON, with the engine not running as part of the start sequence during start or if I want to see the nice lights shine up any time. You have not mentioned this icon being on. So, in your mind, one battery, two batteries later a third battery is the right solution? The second battery you purchased, was it a five year old used battery? Details, please.

If its the alternator, after getting the vehicle started, unhook the positive cable, if vehicle continues to run the alt is good.
