You are confused. You both need to notify your insurance companies. You say it was your fault but you don't get to determine that. Fault (liability) can O N L Y be determined by the insurance companies. If the insurance companies find you liable, your liability insurance will pay to repair the other guys car. Then, if you want your car repaired, it will be repaired under your collision coverage subject to your collision deductible. It's the same for the other guy. The last thing you should be worrying about is a insurance rate increase. People who settle on their own are among the most foolish people around. You put yourself at great risk by doing so. When you have insurance.... USE IT ! ! People worry waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much about a (possible) insurance rate increase

a) Even if you don't the other party's insurance company will be notifying your insurance company about the accident since they need to verify that you are insured and that the other insurance company is accepting liability. So if you don't they will. b) It depends on your policy. If you have accident forgiveness then it might not go up at all. Speak with your broker/agent and ask them.
