What signals "authentic" for you? cochinita pibil, mole, achiote ... In SA: La Fogata is one of my favorites. In the 80's they introduced queso flameado, roasted salsa, and guaba epanadas which weren't common at tex-mex places. Los Barrios is another favorite but I consider it Tex-Mex though they do have mole. Guajillos, though I havent been here Ive heard it mentioned in "authentic" conversation. For a great burger try Luther's Cafe For pizza try Dough. In Austin: Definitly check out Curra's Grill. I hear Fonda San Miguel is good too. I found this doing a little searching: Hecho en Mexico looks interesting I recommend Z'Tejas for southwestern. Try the Counter Cafe for some good eats.
