First, switch off the stove. Fire usually extinguishes itself when the oil burns out. You can douse the fire using any flour, rice or some powder available at hand. NEVER POUR WATER.

Like the other guy said, it is VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT USE WATER. Most kitchens will have a fire extinguisher for instances like this, use it.

Switch off the stove. If you have a fire extinguisher, use it. The fire will anyway burn out once the oil gets exhausted. Never use water on oil fire. There are different kinds of fire - paper and wood, chemical, electrical, etc. and there are different kinds of fire extinguishers for each type of fire (nowadays you get common extinguishers for all types of fire).

1)In case of a cooking oil fire, immediately shut off the heat source.Leaving it on simply adds fuel to the fire. However, only do this if it is safe to do so. 2)Run a cloth under water and ring out the excess. 3)Place the cloth over the pan to smother the fire. 4)Wait until the pan has completely cooled before attempting to move it. REMEMBER DON'T USE WATER DIRECTLY ON THE PAN. IT CAN BURN YOUR WHOLE HOUSE. Watch also video tutorial http://www.wikihow.com/Extinguish-an-Oil-Fire
