For me, it would definitely be Leonardo Da Vinci. His mind fascinates me, his inventions were visionary, his scientific observations were invaluable and his art is unbelievable! I find everything about him both intriguing and inspiring, and as an artist I feel that he was completely and utterly innovative in every aspect of life. Well, maybe not his personal life... ;-) As you can see I am a big fan of his work: http://jerichomckraven.webs.com/

Well, I'm art historian, and it's quite difficult for me to single out just one important artist because I know of so many. However, an artist who interests me greatly is Caravaggio, partly because of the impulse towards realism he displayed in the late 16th, early 17th centuries, but one that he presented in a highly dramatic form. He was an interesting set of contradictions. But I might choose Vermeer, one of the greatest artists who ever graced the planet, in part because the manner in which he achieved his effects continues to be mysterious and to fascinate.
