It depends on where you are and what the couriers delivery instructions are. If they do not have authority to leave consignment then they will most likely leave a failed delivery notice card, with instructions on how to collect your parcel or how to make another delivery appointment. Generally a local post office will not accept a courier consignment unless it has been prearranged by thee recipient, and both the post office and courier have instructions to do so. Post offices will take and hold parcels that were sent via their own service that can't be left at the recipients address, but not those sent via a private courier organization.

They may leave it. If it needs a signature, they will leave you a notice.
