Speak to the admissions team at the uni you want to go to. UK unis are likely to accept you anyway. Speak to someone in the department and explain your position. If you have any work that shows you have good writing skills, show them. Get your work to give you a reference that highlights your ability in english. Most places understand that when you are 14/15 you may flunk an exam. I think for engineering, if you have the other required grades, English is something they may overlook. If you had an A in English but a fail in science and maths, they would be much less likely to accept you. It's clear you can write. I think they will understand if you didn't give a fep about poetry when you were 15.
