A computer used for graphic designing, video editing and recording will require one that has an Intel 7i, 8 gb of RAM and a rather large hard drive, like 1 tb. If you can find one that also has a 32 gb SSD, all your movie processing will take a lot less time. I have one such notebook that also included four 3.0 USB ports as well as one HDMI port and DVD burner. It cost me under $1,000 about six months ago, so you may be able to find with for a bit less. The notebook I have is made by Dell All the programs used for the applications you will be using come in both PC and Apple versions, so while in the labs you will be using an Apple product, you can use the same program on your Windows based PC.

If money is no object, then go the Apple since you're using one at school anyway. Apples don't corrupt there own registry like Windows machines, requiring clean installs every year . I personally prefer Windows machines because I'm so used to them, and I put up with the clean installs.

Get the most expensive you can afford from Alienware. Just make sure you go easy with the games. You may not finish school with it.
