If you do not normally exercise, then starting to exercise will cause you to gain weight to begin with. You will be losing fat, but gain muscle. Muscle weighs more. After a few weeks/months of exercise, the muscle will level off, and you will start to lose weight. During the entire time, you will be losing fat. To get to 200 lbs, it would likely take about 6 to 12 months of very regular exercise. If you get started now, you could be "buff" for next christmas.
