You can ask that the landlord certify in writing that it has been tested for radon and found negative, and that if it should test positive for radon that you can decide not to move in. Then get a radon test and conduct it yourself. You can get radon tests from a hardware store. Don't move in until you have the results, and you can have the landlord pay for it.
