You need a computer with dsl internet modem connected to a wireless router. Once you have a wireless router, then your kindle fire will be able to pick up the Wi-Fi signal from your wireless router to access the internet and download apps. Check to see if your dsl modem has a built in wireless router. Most modems have built in wireless router capabilities. If you don't have a wireless router then you would need to purchase one at the store.

It is capable of web browsing but you need to have a wireless router in order for it to work. This creates a wifi network in your home. It is only capable of wireless connections. The wireless router connects to your modem which is the device that receives and sends out the signal for the internet. The wireless router takes those signals and broadcasts them wireless so devices can use them without being hardwired to the modem. Hope this helps!

The kindle Fire needs wifi. It can't do ethernet. If you don't have a wireless router in that setup, you'll need to add one so it can connect wirelessly.
