it could be that your not lifting heavy enough or your not eating enough calories an proteins you need 1.5 grams of protein for each pound u weigh 20x your body weight from calories also gaining muscle takes time

You're doing something wrong in the weight room, at the dinner table, or both. A novel could be written about weight lifting, it does me no good to waste time rewriting stuff here. Go look at the website for the Stronglifts 5x5 program (as suggested by another user. Not only is it a great lifting schedule for a beginner, but it has a lot of information available about things like proper form and such. When trying to gain muscle, you have to eat more. Your body uses more of everything during this process. Keep your diet healthy and balanced, just increase the volume of food.

Eat more and lift heavier. No, really. Eat lots more. Try getting at least 2 litres of milk down you a day as well. Look at what lifts you are doing, heavy compounds like Bench Press and Squats will build far more than a few sets of isolation moves.
