Yes. When that happened to me they have to remove the tooth.

Yes. A tooth with a root canal can develop abscesses due to a fracture or breakdown of the tooth. The root canal may have to be done again or in the case of a fracture, pulled.

Root canals tend to do this after a few years, mine did, I had to have the tooth out.
