to lose weight you need to eat 1200 - 1500 calories but for muscle i think what you are doing is fine.

Generally speaking it is that simple. That's the idea. The body though cannot function healthily under 1200 calories a day, after food and exercise in the long run. Partiularly on your example, in order to burn 1000 cal at the gym, let's say you need 3-4 hours workout. On order to last 3-4 hours you need the quality food that will take you there. That s why athletes are eating 5000 ( example not representing a specific number) calories a day, cause they work out 6-8 hours a day, but no athlete eats junk food. Whole grains, vegetables, greens, plenty of water, some diary, protein That is why good food, irrelevant of calories is so importand. It helps your body function to its maximum potential and your brain to stay alert
