Sleeping throughout the day is normal, birds need naps just like we do. You don't have to worry about the amount of sleep he gets, pet parrots usually follow their owner's sleep time. My IRN's sleep time is around 11PM, If I put him to bed before 11PM, he'll make noise because he does not want to sleep yet.

Most birds sleep when dark as they have almost no night vision. You should let the room go dark with Sundown and light with Sunup so the birds can sleep all the dark hours as they would in the wild. NO lights on, NO disturbances and NO exceptions. The length of the darkness will automatically match their needed sleep time for that part of the year.

he is just tired and needs to regain his energy. Does he have toys? Toys are a great way of expanding a birds mind and letting him explore. It will distract him from the constant sleeping if your worried. Does he get enough food. Im sure he does im just checking. Birds love seeds. You feed him formula but have you ever let him try seeds? The formula migth be making him sleepy. I really dont think you should worry. Anyways, I hope I helped and for more bird facts and Information, join my site below. Very informational. It might have been damaged by the cat, even though you could not see it. Also in your heated home it might have dehydrated. I raised a barn owl a bunch a years ago ( 20 ) It was successful, but I kept it out doors. I wish there was the room to tell ya all about it. But Y!A has rules against chatting on their Q&A format. Mine was a rescue also. I was a steeple jack, part time. We tore down a structure at 150 feet up and this nest was in that. This is the week that marks that event for me.
