The trick is: disengage (press) and engage (release) slowly, but not too slowly. In very tight maneuvers, play the clutch at mid-travel to inch the vehicle ahead or in reverse. It takes some practice. Imagine the clutch as two friction disks, one powered by the engine and the other connected to the wheels. It is inevitable that they should slide with respect to each other, but try to reduce this to the minimum so that the clutch can last many miles before overhaul. You will also use the clutch during braking, but just at the final stage when the engine would be choked by the brake - the clutch is pressed to disengage and let the engine idle freely while the wheels are being stopped. During braking at normal driving speed, clutch should not be touched.
