1. obvious should ask the person that sent you the files and ask WHY and HOW. 2. you can make a copy of the file, then (using the copy) you should be able to change the .era to .txt then you will be able to open the file in Notepad, and see whats inside. looks for patterns or words. 3. if its encrypted (or the text file is completely random) for proprietary reasons, like a Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance data file....then you have to go to the source. just some suggestions, good luck to you
