Ubuntu 13.04 is not stable but experimental Ubuntu 12.04 is LTS (Long Term Support and stable)

You can erase the entire disk header irretrievably with a command like this. It will erase the first connected disk so disconnect every other disk you want to keep. sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=1M count=10 Windows will then format it for you during installation
