I run 9 batts in my car, no isolator. As long as the two batts have similar resting voltage, they will be fine. If they have different voltages, they will try to match each other to death. A bad batt under my hood nearly killed my other 8, as an example. Do the big 3 in 0 ga. It will help a decent bit, but I can't really quantify how much. If you are going to take the time to add a HO alt, i'd go with one of the more expensive, proven companies. Singer Alts, Iraggi, or Ohio Generator are three brands I'd look into. Ohio has been around for decades and has earned my trust.
