In general the MX-5's are reliable, but these are now used cars and how reliable any used car may be is heavily dependent on how well the previous owners serviced and maintained the vehicle. So you must look at each car on a case by case basis and any serious contenders MUST be taken to your own trusted mechanic or Mazda shop for a Pre Purchase Inspection. Look at the Carfax, call a Mazda service dept with the VIN number to see how meticulous or lazy previous owners were with factory guideline service. In terms of the PPI A hundred bucks or two can save you thousands in annoyance and heartache.
