Old enough to be able to spell properly so you can keep all the paperwork and affairs in order. Tax affairs can be complicated when you are self employed. No one will enter into a contract of any sorts until you are an adult so 18 is the ideal age is 18. Any younger and you will need an adult along side to act in different capacities.

Old toys are never self employes but if you mean "How old do you have to be to be self employed" the answer is really "at any age" if you are in business. But there are legal problems in that people under 16 cannot enter into most contracts. That said if you are younger, making profits then H M Revenue and Customs will want you registered and paying tax if you make more than £9440 a year
