The engineers at VW know far more than you and I combined ever will about their engines. So why would you second guess their recommended intervals? Stick with what VW recommends. This information is in your service booklet.

It should say in your manual. If you do not have one, call VW or buy a manual online. Typical oil change intervals on most cars are every 5000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. Check your manual.

I do mine every 3000 miles(5000km) and I also do an oil filter change. but, it is your horse and we are in the middle of the desert. I give mine water. You take care of yours or you make with the shoes. You can take it to 20,000 miles cause you see, it is gonna be your problem and I am not lending you my shovel to bury it once it dies.. Life is tough.

Change your oil whenever or how frequent you want just don't exceed whatever VW's recommended OCI is.
