If your apt was built after 1978, then you have no reason to worry. Lead was formally removed from paint in that year. Would be amazed if your apt complex is that old.
Positive: 100 %

Are you in the US? If so there are laws that require landlords to remove lead paint from their rental properties. Lead paint is a serious issue. Contact HUD and your local housing authority for information. Your city council and the board of health are other resources. Forget about the landlord - let HUD, housing authority or board of health deal with him. If you have children I would have moved yesterday. Good luck

Are you sure about testing the dust? Lead dust is only present at any remodeling or repair activity that disturbs paint in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities, including maintenance, electrical work, plumbing, painting, carpentry and window replacement - See more at: http://www.miconstruguia.com/en/construction-dust/

you are telling me that your apartment has NOT been painted since the late 70's-early 80's?? Thats 30-40 years ago. Lead paint in the US has not been sold since the late 70's. You are better off to chip off some paint and take that to be tested somewhere. here is a link to a site that sells lead test kits. check it out. http://www.leadinspector.com/
