It is only expensive if you buy a pre-built computer. They are way overcharged and underpowered. It is better to build a PC. It is relatively less expensive and is much more personalized as well. You can make it as powerful as you want and you may only need to upgrade certain parts at a time after it is built. A good computer will last quite a few years.

It depends what sort of settings you're trying to use. The hardware itself should last just as long, the thing with computers however is that you can run varying levels of quality, if you restrict it to the same resolution, fps and quality settings as a console then it will last just as long as the console will, but if you try and run everything flat out at the highest possible settings you will have to upgrade every year or so. The reason for this is that as each generation of computer or graphic cards become more powerful the software manufacturers write games which will use the full capacity of the most powerful available systems, and beyond in many cases, while the console games are stuck having to run on exactly the same piece of equipment as they were several years ago. It's expensive because you pay for what you get, if you only pay console prices you on;y get something that performs at console specification.

Not sure how long gaming computers last, but my sister has a Nintendo that is from the mid 90's, which would make it almost 20 years old and we don't have any problems with it. The computer she has though has to be upgraded a lot and we've had to have a lot of parts replaced (which is a headache) and it's 6 years old. So for longevity probably stick with the console. But the computer does sound really cool!

Oh. Pc gaming. My PC was built on 2008 and its still fresh after a little upgrade not long ago. It's expansive because you can do much more with a PC than a console. I'm running Crysis 3 on 1440p. My friend does that with 3 1080p monitors. Games are cheap too. Really cheap. There are lots of free games too like Blacklight retribution and Hawken. I could go on forever.
