It depends where you go. There are some very nice places like Hamburg, the good bits of Berlin and Munich although the people there are pretty reserved. Also the countryside is nice, especially in Bavaria. People in Germany can be reserved to the point of coming across a little formal and unfriendly compared with other nationalities. It is mostly quite prosperous, clean and tidy, apart from the former east which is still lagging behind. Unfortunately food not very nice ( stodgy food served everywhere a bit like Britain in the 1970s), and smoking rates very high.
