They call the applicant's current employer. They may try to verify current employment, length of employment, earnings and likelihood of continued employment.

It's a possibility but more times than not they DON'T call. They just ask for the number to your job to call you when they are looking for payment.

The social security number does not give them the ability to verify employment information. It does give them information about the history of what employment the person claimed on previous applications. It does not give them verified information.

who knows? every company has their own set of rules they adhere to to select people for a credit card some may, some may not
