Well either the part you got is wrong Or you have installed it wrong. That simple Use Duct tape to hold the handle on.

Are we talking about the spout or the faucet adjustment? The spout is removed by turning it with something that will hold in the spout. The new one goes on the same, with teflon tape to seal, and turned on extensively. It sound like you have only a few threads. You need a faucet with a different reach.
