sounds like a feature to keep you from locking your keys in the car. You might have to manually lock them from the outside with your key.

Don't know if this trick works on Hyundais, but on some cars if you lock and then hold up the exterior handle on the door as you close it, it doesn't unlock when you close it.

Your elantra has an immobilizer that recognizes the key in the ignition allowing the car to start. When the key is in the ignition, the doors will not stay locked. This is a safety feature that prevents you from leaving the keys in the ignition, locking and closing the doors and being locked out. I can only recommend that you contact your local dealer and have a remote start kit installed. It may cost you about 300-400 dollars but it will solve your problem. Good luck
