The New Deal and the Fair Deal WERE essentially FDR's first Presidency.. He was trying to deal with the Dust bowl combined with an economic collapse, (caused, one might note by essentially the same 'concentration of wealth' situation we see today with the debt crisis added. He also had monetary problems and ended up confiscating private bullion taking the Dollar off the Gold Standard.)
