I don't think you can. Unless you have sufficient control to do what's called either time or long exposure it won't happen.

If you set your ISO to 100 you can get up to 8 seconds at night.

Your P520 does not have full manual controls, no compact camera does. Ideally bulb is used as you can set the shutter for up to 30 minutes - but your shutter does not have a bulb feature (only DSLRs have that). Your shutter is probably restricted to either 8sec or 30sec. Set the shutter for as long as it will stay open, and if you can run fast enough, you might get some of the light-painting effect. To set your shutter speed, go into manual mode.

Your P520 does have full manual controls, see page 78 of your manual. This camera is limited to a max of 8 seconds of shutter time. You can do a limited amount of light painting in 8 seconds. Have fun.
