Don't over think a car. As long as the timing hasn't been changed, it needs three things. Fuel, oxygen and spark (fire triangle?). If you have the fuel and the spark it must be... Too much fuel could upset the balance of the fuel to oxygen mix. Try letting the fuel evaporate. IF that doesn't work, is it good fuel? If that doesn't work, check the timing?

You seeing what looks like black gas is nothing more then carbon build up which is in about everyone's manifold. For starters pull the plugs and make sure they are not wet with gas. If they are spin the engine over a few times to blow the gas out dry the plugs and reinstall them. If they are dry spray starting fluid into the manifold and try to crank it up, if it runs for a very short time then you need to check for fuel pressure. Could be the relay or the fuel shut off which you will need the owners manual to locate.
