Well, John Proctor could stand as an example of a martyr in the sense that he sacrificed his good name/ his soul in the eyes of the church exposing himself as a sinner , adulterer. etc. in order to save his wife elizabeth from getting hanged ... so although he cheated he regained his goodness by letting himself be hanged rather than his wife. AND . as well as the fact that he refused to sign the paper that would verify that all those dozens of people accused of witchcraft. So he would not muddy their good names because of his mistake. a good quote would be when he was yelling "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life!...How can I live without my name? I have given my soul; leave me my name!"(Miller, 143).
