Look at Canon, Sony, Nikon, Pentax and buy the one that feels best in your hands. They all make excellent cameras.

In the first place you do not want a film camera with interchangeable lenses or a SLR. You want a DSLR which is a digital single lens reflex camera, which accepts interchangeable lenses. Just go out and buy Pentax. Sony I don't like at all. Canon is fine, so is Nikon. Now after you have bought what I or somebody else has recommended, you find in practice that you don't like this DSLR thing. The reason because you let us pick your camera. YOU are the one who should check out the DSLR cameras for yourself! You are the important person here, not me or anybody else. The camera's viewfinder has to be comfortable for YOU to view through, the controls have to easy for you to reach and understand. The lenses made by the camera's manufacture have to cover all YOUR interests now and anything you might like in the future. Ok now you have settled on a brand and can't decide between two or possibly three of it's models and need our help. Here we come bands beating, chests a puffing and with the recommendation we think would suit your best! Personally I like Pentax. So Pentax, Canon, & Nikon. I don't care for Sony! All three are great cameras, Pick the brand then we can help by being more specific based on the model and price. But a word to the wise with your knowledge of DSLR's you are best not to invest top dollar in a DSLR. You should only look at "entry" (cheapest) models of the brands you like! Good Luck

Walk into the store with your cash. Get the meanest looking dSLR you can afford. All dSLR's are good, all brands and all models. They are all basically the same. Picture quality will be the same no matter what dSLR you get. Just make sure you get a real dSLR that comes with a lens. "Body only" does not include a lens. If you can't see through the tiny viewfinder on top of the rear LCD with the camera OFF (lens cap should be taken out), it's not a dSLR.

Go for canon or Nikon any day if you want to buy a DSLR. you can compare cameras on if you are confounded between two. Also I would suggest look for Nikon in this range. They have the d5200 and d5100 both are really good bit the former is an upgraded version and much better. You can also look forward to canon 600d. Hope you get an idea of what you're looking for. Happy shooting...! :-)
