Fm9 and similar notation is usually cheat messages for guitar players that can't or don't want to read music. That one means F minor ninth; a complicated chord. When reading standard notation, those can be ignored. I would have to see what you are doing to know why something doesn't sound right. You can play a lot of pop music with less than 88 keys; you just wouldn't have the highest and lowest notes.
