The ONLY legitimate sites are free. The ones that charge do all kinds of cruel tricks to scam you out of as much money as possible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91qZ8noAZNc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh97AFeP7hA http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/directory/iuniverse I'm afraid pmj has some things wrong. Yes Lulu has recently become a scam if you pay for any of their "packages" which are run by author solutions. However Nook Press, Pubit Smashwords and Amazon are free and are not scams. It is vital that if you want to pay for anything you seek out independent cover artists and editors though because most of the package deals are scams run by a giant multinational scam company called "author solutions" that runs under many many different names, but it's all th same bunch of scams. I do know authors making a lot of money self publishing using free services but they all either make everything themselves, or pay independent artists etc... Also there are legitimate, selective legitimate publishers using POD technology. POD does not always mean self publishing, vanity publishing or scam. Even Big Five publishers are using POD technology now for their digital first lines if books sell enough copies in ebook to go to print. However all vanity publishers use POD which is where the confusion arises.
