If one of your spark plugs stopped firing I think unburned gas can get down past the piston rings and into the oil pan. But you'd know right away if one of the spark plugs stopped firing because the engine would sound like a ready mix cement truck. Is the engine running smoothly? Is it burning very rich?...lots of black smoke? More info is needed.

HI, on an older car with the fuel pump mounted on the motor I have seen where a bad fuel pump would pump fuel into the oil pan.. But if its a newer car most likely its just the oil smell from maybe a rich running motor and the oil is collecting the smell of the extra fuel. good luck tim

Old oil does smell a bit of petrol. Nothing to worry about as long as you keep to the regular oil changes and the engine is in good condition
