There are quite a lot of good, free synth plugins out there. U-he do some really good ones. The free ones are listed on the right hand side under "more plug-ins". http://www.u-he.com/cms/ Kamiooka is great for modular stuff. http://www.g200kg.com/en/software/kamioooka.html Tweakbench do loads of nice instruments and effects. http://www.tweakbench.com/ DSK give away a surreal amount of VSTs for nothing. http://www.dskmusic.com/category/vsti-all/ As do de la Mancha. http://delamanchavst.wordpress.com/instruments/ My best advice for learning...just work your way through the instruction manual and make sure you really understand it all. It's going to take time and it won't happen overnight. Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way to get anywhere.
