If you use a preparer, it's not likely to be free except for VITA sites http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Free-Tax-Return-Preparation-for-You-by-Volunteers - the IRS doesn't charge you to file, The fee you pay is to the preparer, for their work in doing your return. If you just have a W-2, doing it yourself online might be a good option for you. There are a number of sites to do your federal return free. If you have to also file a state return though, there's a charge. You should end up with a refund, maybe around $500, if that $750 was all for federal income tax. If that included social security and medicare, not likely a refund.
